2012 Mercedes Benz Cls 6.3 AMG

Despite its 63 designation, the latest CL63 AMG has swapped out its 6.2-liter (which Mercedes-Benz was already fibbing on by graciously rounding up to 6.3) V8 for the automaker's new 5.5-liter bi-turbo unit. Standard power is 536 horsepower and 590 lb-ft. of torque.
Those seeking even more from their ultra-luxu sports coupe will want to option up to the AMG Performance Package. Power in that configuration is up to 563 horsepower, while torque tops out a stump-pulling 664 lb-ft. Regardless of performance level, the 5.5-liter V8 is mated to a seven-speed SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7 automatic transmission with three driving modes and a rev-matching function.
Despite the healthy power bump, Mercedes-Benz says that fuel consumption has decreased 27 percent, while CO2 emissions are down 30 percent thanks to the use of a lower displacement engine and turbocharger-based forced induction.
Look for a top speed of an electronically-limited 155 mph in standard form (186 mph with the upgraded package) and a zero-to-60 sprint of 4.4 seconds for the standard CL63 and 4.3 seconds for the AMG Performance Package model.
Of course, buyers considering the CL63 want more than just power and speed, so Mercedes-Benz has packed this coupe full of standard features like the COMAND system with 40GB hard-drive GPS navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, an 11-speaker Harmon-Kardon LOGIC7 5.1-channel surround-sound system, power sunroof, bi-xenon headlamps with active curve illumination, electronic closing trunk and a slew of AMG-specific interior upgrades like premium leather, performance steering wheel with aluminum shift paddles, new instrument cluster and 14-way power heated seats.
In terms of safety and security features, the CL63 AMG comes with roadside assistance, adaptive dual stage front airbags, driver knee airbag, side and full-length curtain airbags and active head restraints. Electronic safety comes in the form of the AMG 2-stage electronic stability program, a predictive occupant protection system, a roll-over sensor, anti-theft alarm with engine shut-down and night security illumination.
Key competitors
The Mercedes-Benz CL63 is one serious performer, with competition including theAudi R8 V10, the BMW M6 (when it arrives) and the Jaguar XKR
